8-Week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Course

 This 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion Course is offered at the CHA Center for Mindfulness and Compassion. All levels of experience with mindfulness and meditation are welcome.

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional well-being. Click here to view an overview of the themes explored over the 8 weeks and learning objectives and outcomes. MSC is an empirically-supported 8-week program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion, co-developed by Dr. Christopher Germer, a senior advisor of our CHA Center for Mindfulness and Compassion. We welcome you to explore Mindful Self-Compassion tools and resources, including guided meditation and a course overview, through the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion website.

The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This course meets the criteria for 20 continuing education credits.This program carries 20 contact hours and meets the specifications of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (244 CMR 5.00). This program has been approved for 20 Social Work Continuing Education hours for relicensure, in accordance with 258 CMR. Collaborative of NASW and the Boston College and Simmons Schools of Social Work Authorization Number D-73026.
 

Objective #1 Define the empirical construct of self-compassion, and identify misconceptions

Objective #2 Practice concentration/breath meditation to calm the autonomic nervous system and explain the scientific rationale for concentration meditation

Objective #3 Compare and contrast the constructs of loving-kindness, compassion and self- compassion

Objective #4 Practice loving-kindness meditation for emotional wellbeing

Objective #5 Describe the role of self-criticism in anxiety and depression and practice self-compassionate motivation as an antidote to self-criticism

Objective #6 Define and recognize personal core values, and apply strategies for adhering to core values in daily life

Objective #7 Practice self-compassion strategies to sustain emotional connection in challenging therapeutic interactions

Refund policy: There is a $75 registration fee if cancelling at least 8 days before the course orientation. 50% refund can be between 7 days and 2 days before course orientation. No Refund is available if cancellation is within 48 hours before the start of the course orientation, but the participant will be placed on a waiting list to be enrolled in the next MBSR or MSC course offering.
